How did the Dopamine Detox go?

Before you wait for me to tell you this super amazing galactic experience… don’t. This was a great experience but it wasn’t world shattering. I expected this.

How was this a great experience?

  1. I realized I really can be without a computer, phone, and all that those entail.
  2. I had time for me myself and I, as well as my boyfriend.
  3. I realized how much time I spend mindlessly online.

What could be better?

  1. As I stated above I did this with my boyfriend and I think this kinda took away from the experience as I didn’t just think about me and my progress
  2. I noticed I still have certain limitations and procrastinate on certain things. Like I wanted to write thoughts out, but since I didn’t have my phone/comp I felt too lazy to do it. (Usually I do like to write)
  3. I couldn’t put reminders on phone and had to use just post-its.
  4. I also didn’t spend the day doing anything productive per say. Tho this can also be seen as a good thing. There is nothing wrong in taking the day off and being totally on your own, with your thoughts etc.

Oh and I understood why Andrew said it should a Sunday. It means Monday is the next time you can use your phone and you don’t spend the day before a work day/productive day stuck to you phone.

  1. I think it is great that your boyfriend was on board with doing this dopamine fast. My husband is addicted to his phones (yes, phones), computers (yes, multiples) and TVs (although he mainly uses one of the two TVs). If I were to do a fast, I would have to get him to do it with me. Whenever he isn’t home, I turn off the TV but when he is at home, the TV is on all the time. I wonder how he would react if I suggest this idea to him?

    I use my laptop on a daily basis for online classes but otherwise I don’t use social media. I would love to do a dopamine fast one of these days to reset my brain. 😊


    1. You should totally suggest it to him. You can start by showing Andrews videos to him so he actually gets a scientific basis on why he should do it with you. And yes, honestly I don’t think I would have been able to do it if my boyfriend would have still been using his phone and comp. It isn’t easy to have this type of a break from all of the dopamine. Especially if you need to use those for work/school. That is why the weekend is a great opportunity to do so. However it isn’t enough to just do it once. If you just go back to how things are right after, then its +/- 0 πŸ˜€ I actually will have to do this again sometime and be more disciplined of the day after, Cos I have kinda just gone back to being way too much on phone and comp πŸ˜€


      1. My husband says he does not have a problem but he does… he really does. Yes, I might show him those videos. Maybe then he will see the potential benefits of taking a dopamine fast!

        I keep my phone in a separate room whenever I need to focus on work which seems to help. Sadly, the classes are entirely online and I spend 8+ hours a day on Zoom just for school. I don’t use FB, IG or other social media platforms so at least I’ve got that going for me. πŸ˜‚πŸ€£


      2. If he doesn’t have a problem then this should be tottally easy for him. So if he says like “it is just for people who are addicted but im not” then just say that he could prove it to you and everyone else by doing the detox πŸ˜‰


      3. Plus even if he wouldn’t have a problem sometimes screen time gets between family time and friends time even if we don’t mean it to. We just get so immersed so maybe instead of suggesting a detox. Sugest just one day totally for you too without phones n tvs n comps. Maybe then it won’t seem like a confrontation πŸ€—
